The Summer Bridge program is designed to support incoming 9th graders in their transition to high school. Our middle school colleagues will be selecting students who they feel are not ready based on their performance in 8th grade.
The program is three weeks long, meeting Monday through Thursday, July 24 - August 10, 8-11am each day.
There are two goals: Relationships & Readiness. In addition to “guest speakers” that will include important people in the school, the curriculum also addresses Math Readiness, Literacy and Language, Mindset, and Technology. The program will be housed at the Birkett Freshman Center. Some students will be required to attend the program and others will be recommended to attend. Those students will be identified this Spring.
The program is staffed by a Supervisor and 6 faculty members who support the subject-specific areas. There are 12 hours available for each person to plan prior to the program dates. Faculty are also paid from 8-11:30am for the duration of the program. The rate is $31/hour.
Once our middle school colleagues identify students, they will send a mailing we provide and reach out with a phone call to each invited parent/guardian. We will then meet with parents and students in May.
Transportation is provided from the students’ homes. We also provide starter packs for students, incentives for participation and daily snacks.
