Using Space
|
As you set-up your classroom, consider what works best for you and your students:
|
As you make decisions for your classroom space, keep in mind our two key priorities:
|

Level 1: LAPTOP and SPEAKER in the middle of the room, and you are seen by both students in and out of the classroom.

Level 2: LAPTOP, SPEAKER, and PROJECTOR connected by an HDMI or using the dock, VGA, & ethernet cables. Use Windows P to duplicate or extend your screen.
**Remember that in the classroom, you can freeze the content displayed on your projector if you want to touch base with students learning at home or look/respond in the chat.

Level 3: LAPTOP, SPEAKER, PROJECTOR, and EXTERNAL MONITOR or SMARTBOARD connected using the dock, VGA, and ethernet cables. Use Windows P to duplicate or extend your screen. Click here to learn how to adjust display options. Recommended: Check the display options before starting class.
**You can drag your Zoom controls (Chat, list of Breakout Rooms, etc.) from screen to screen regardless of where your main Zoom window is open. Click here to see it in action.

As we prepare for Hybrid learning, we must consider how to use space and instructional strategies to support students in your classroom and students learning remotely. Use your time today to brainstorm, plan, collaborate with colleagues, and make choices based on what's best for you and your students. As a school, our focus should be on the following priorities:

Using Strategies
Instructional Options and Choices
How can we design our lessons to use time effectively AND meet the needs of students in and out of the classroom?
One of the challenges connected to teaching students in your classroom and on Zoom is using time and resources effectively to support both groups of students.
Similar to the instructional options we have with the Hybrid Schedule, we should continue to make instructional choices that make questioning, assessment, support, and connections our biggest priorities, regardless if a student is in the classroom or learning from home.

Sample Lesson Structures
Level 1: Traditional Lesson Structure
Center yourself in the front of the room so that you are seen by students in the classroom AND students learning from home. All students are working on similar tasks throughout the class period. |
Level 2: Add Individual Support Time
Teach your class like you would during a shorter period and reserve the latter portion of a class to touch base with small groups or individual students that need it. |
Level 3: Split Time with Students
Give students time to work on a larger assignment. During this time, split your time between students IN the classroom and the students learning REMOTELY. |
Remember: There are numerous ways to structure your classes. Continue to be flexible and make choices that meet the needs of your students both in and out of the classroom. Learn more here.
Instructional Strategies
As unsettled as we feel in this new learning environment, our students’ senses are also all tied up when they come into the building. We need to help them feel comfortable, ready to learn, and connected to the rest of their class.
