In-Person Hybrid Schedule

Using Space

As you set-up your classroom, consider what works best for you and your students:
  • Visit your classroom and experiment with different set-up options
  • Collaborate with all colleagues that share your same room as you make choices
  • Use the video to see a few classroom examples ranging from simple to more advanced
  • Share what accessories you need for your classroom with your Department Chair
As you make decisions for your classroom space, keep in mind our two key priorities:
  1. Moving the computer from the corner of the room to a more central position;
  2. Making sure students in each setting can be heard by the other.

As we prepare for Hybrid learning, we must consider how to use space and instructional strategies to support students in your classroom and students learning remotely. Use your time today to brainstorm, plan, collaborate with colleagues, and make choices based on what's best for you and your students. As a school, our focus should be on the following priorities:

Using Strategies

Instructional Options and Choices

How can we design our lessons to use time effectively AND meet the needs of students in and out of the classroom?
One of the challenges connected to teaching students in your classroom and on Zoom is using time and resources effectively to support both groups of students.

Similar to the instructional options we have with the Hybrid Schedule, we should continue to make instructional choices that make questioning, assessment, support, and connections our biggest priorities, regardless if a student is in the classroom or learning from home.

Sample Lesson Structures

Level 1: Traditional Lesson Structure
  • Topic and Task
  • Practice, Process, Participate
  • Close and Conclude

Center yourself in the front of the room so that you are seen by students in the classroom AND students learning from home. All students are working on similar tasks throughout the class period.

Level 2: Add Individual Support Time
  • Topic and Task
  • Practice, Process, Participate
  • Close and Conclude
  • Touch Base with Students

Teach your class like you would during a shorter period and reserve the latter portion of a class to touch base with small groups or individual students that need it.

Level 3: Split Time with Students
  • Topic and Task
  • Extended Work Time
  • Close and Conclude

Give students time to work on a larger assignment. During this time, split your time between students IN the classroom and the students learning REMOTELY.

Instructional Strategies

As unsettled as we feel in this new learning environment, our students’ senses are also all tied up when they come into the building. We need to help them feel comfortable, ready to learn, and connected to the rest of their class. Click on the words below to learn more about how we can reassure students in the classroom, engage students learning remotely,  AND keep our sanity:
